Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

The entire team here at The Connaught Hotel and Spa Bournemouth is fully committed to creating a cleaner and greener environment.

We take great pleasure in working towards a more sustainable future, always being aware of the environmental impacts of our daily operations.

Our project is ongoing, we’re continually learning and understanding the environmental issues associated with our industry and what we can do to improve.

Take a look below at all the changes that we’ve made in a bid to reduce our carbon footprint. And if you’d like to do your part when staying at The Connaught Hotel and Spa, read our top environmental tips for hotel guests.

  • Energy efficient LED light bulbs are used in every bedroom throughout the hotel
  • We have an electric car charging point available for guests to use
  • Food served in our restaurant is sourced locally where possible – almost all of our suppliers are from a 40 mile radius
  • All paper, glass, plastic, printer cartridges and electrical items from our offices are recycled
  • All colleagues are encouraged to use public transport
  • Railings are made available for guests to secure their bicycles
  • We regularly clean and maintain all hotel ventilation systems
  • We frequently defrost and maintain all freezers so that they work as efficiently as possible
  • Half-used toilet rolls from bedrooms are used in our staff toilets and communal areas
  • We don’t sell any plastic bottles throughout the hotel
  • We raise awareness to our colleagues and encourage them to carry out more sustainable business practices
  • We’ve installed air source heat pumps throughout the hotel. This project was part-funded by Low Carbon Dorset as part of the European Regional Development Fund and will save over 87.8 tonnes of CO2 each year.

If you’re conscious about your own carbon footprint as a traveller, here are some simple changes that you can make when visiting our hotel.

Save Energy

Turn off the television / lights when not in use and try to limit the use of air-con and heating. Towels and linen will be washed if you leave them in the bath, but please only do this when necessary.

We encourage our guests to use public transport or to walk when possible as we’re just a short walk from the town centre and beach. Our reception team will happily provide you with information on bicycle hire and walking routes in the area.
Shop Locally

SHOP LOCALLY

Bournemouth is full of independent businesses and restaurants selling local produce. Visiting these will give you a true Dorset experience and will help support our local community.
Be Water Wise

BE WATER WISE

Please consider your water usage in our hotel exactly as you would in your own home. Avoid leaving taps running when brushing teeth and remember that showering uses less water than having a bath.
