With its seven miles of sandy coastline, Bournemouth’s Blue Flag beach is a big draw for visitors heading to the coastal resort town in summertime. When hordes of holidaymakers pack their bags for a chance to unwind on one of Britain’s best-loved beaches. That’s on top of the great shopping, historic gardens, restaurants, bars, parks and events we have to offer here year-round.

Call us biased but we think summertime in Bournemouth is one of the nicest places to be in Britain. So when you’re checking in with us at The Connaught Hotel (while the heat is on) here are seven essential items we recommended you pack for your stay.

Sunglasses

Unless you want to spend the whole day squinting, or indoors with the curtains closed then you definitely don’t want to visit Bournemouth in summer without a pair of sunglasses. While the sun’s refection on the sea is a beautiful sight to behold, it’s even better through a cool pair of shades.

A beach towel

You can find deckchairs and sunbeds for hire all along Bournemouth beach, but bringing your own beach towel is always a good idea. If you do decide to go into the sea for a dip or a paddle then you’ll need something to help you dry off.

Lotion

Although Britain’s not known for great weather, in the summertime the temperature regularly rises into the high 20s and this year has been no exception! Even on a cloudy day the sun’s strength can still shine through. So don’t hit the beach without a good factor 30. Don’t forget to reapply liberally throughout the day.

Flip-Flops and waking boots

Unlike some of Britain’s beaches, Bournemouth’s Blue Flag beach is all sand (no stones) so you’ll need a shoe capable of navigating the terrain. Flip-flops are ideal as they slip on and off easily, but any other type of sandal (that you don’t mind getting sandy) will do just as well. For the more adventurous the New Forest is just a few miles away with everything from horse-riding to cycling so sensible shoes will be a must.
